Youth Council

Representing young people

Experts in youth issues. Since 2006, Heidelberg's Youth Council represents the interests of the city's young people vis-à-vis the Mayor, the City Council and the different committees. It also has a permanent right to express its views on all issues related to young people in City Council meetings.

The Youth Council is advised by six members of the City Council and can also draw on the opinions of young people with expertise in particular fields. The 30-member body is elected every two years by Heidelberg inhabitants aged between 14 and 19.

Making policy. With two advisory members in the Youth Welfare Committee and one advisory member in each of the Sport, Culture, Urban Development and Transport Committees, young people are actively involved in political discussions. But the Youth Council also has a social role, regularly organizing parties, concerts, round table discussions and sporting events for young people.

Anyone interested in the work of the Youth Council is welcome to sit in on one of its regular six-weekly public meetings in the Town Hall. Dates and further information are also available on the Youth Council's instagram page
