Master Plan 100% climate protection
Heidelberg is participating as a model municipality in the "Master Plan 100% Climate Protection" funding program of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).The goal: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 95 percent by 2050 compared to 1990 levels. Heidelberg aims to achieve this through energy savings of at least 50 percent and a switch to renewable energies. The creation and implementation of the master plan as well as the networking with all participating municipalities is accompanied by a team of scientists on behalf of the BMU. Funding is provided in the form of a grant of up to 80 percent of eligible expenses.
Climate neutral municipality
To achieve the master plan goals, Heidelberg developed a unique concept. It includes the following measures:
- Increase energy efficiency, save energy and develop a sustainable lifestyle
- Increase the use of renewable energies, especially from local and regional sources and supplemented by supraregional sources
- close material cycles
