Towards the Smart City

Heidelberg is a pioneer and leader in many fields – not least in medicine and education. But our aim is not simply to maintain the status quo: We’re now ready to take it to the next level. The city is already working with several outstanding partners on the road towards the Smart City, in particular the University of Heidelberg, the University of Education (PH) and the SRH University Heidelberg.

As a temporary laboratory, the IBA serves as a catalyst for innovation and promotes dialogue. Both the new Bahnstadt district and the redevelopment areas provide space and ideal conditions for the realization of projects linked to Smart City development.

In a systematic approach to achieving the goal of the Digital City, Heidelberg’s city administration will collaborate with many innovative thinkers in order to use the digital transformation as a means to improve even further the high quality of life enjoyed by its citizens. A great deal has already been achieved in this respect.
