You come from a foreign country and are new in Heidelberg?           

Many things that you have to sort out now can be dealt with in your immediate neighbourhood at the Local Administration Offices. There you will be offered a wide range of the City's services in a pleasant atmosphere.

Another point of contact is the Aliens' Section of the Central Administraton Office ('Bürgeramt Mitte'). Here you will find information about your stay and your residence permit.

Heidelberg is the only city within the Federal Republic of Germany that has an honorary ombudsman who works independently from the administration. He acts as a mediator in conflicts between residents and Offices or institutions of the City of Heidelberg.

The Foreigners' Council/Migrants' Council supports especially the cases of foreign residents of Heidelberg. Its aim is that foreign and German residents should live together enjoying equal rights and that they should actively participate in local affairs.
